A roof! and a much needed holiday
A couple of months later, the Piggery is starting to look like a building. There was a point somewhere back in early May where it was positively sketal - all the tiles off the roof and the gable end being repaired made it look like we should have really just pulled the whole thing down and started again! But now, with the roof on, some more windows in, the cladding being started, it is starting to look the part.
We spent an enjoyable day at various reclamation yards buying bricks for the fireplace and ridge tiles. Found some well priced pamments and stone for out the back of the house. In the house, nothing much has changed but the floor is going to be laid in the first week of July (there WILL be champagne corks popped when that is done!!).
We managed to fit in a trip on the Four Counties ring canals in May with Dave and Caroline and Ed. It was great fun, enormously relaxing and very wet!! But it didn't spoil the holiday one bit. We did 100 miles and 90 locks in a week, found some pretty average pubs but had some splendid dinners on board, played a lot of silly games and generally chilled out.
Having briefed the builders more than once to make sure they had everything ordered that they needed BEFORE we went away, I was not best pleased to get a phone call on the Monday asking me to order some timber!!! A stiff rum coffee helped me get over it
